Basil is found on every place. It is planted near houses, gardens and temples but it grows by itself in forests. There are many kinds of basil but according to virtue and religion, black basil is important and the best. Mostly, its leaves are green and black. Its plant is 1-4 feet high. Its leaves are 1-2 inches long, egg shape, rectangle, nodes and fragrant. Its flower has purple or red ting and grows in sprout. Mostly, its plant is planted in the March to June. Its fragrant sprouts appear in the September to October. Its flowers appear in winter season which turns in seeds. Its plant has fast electricity power which affects two hundred yard around it. A home where a green basil plant is planted, there is no doubt of thunder and volts.
Basil kills worms and ends offensive smell. It brings phlegm out and eliminates gas. It is useful for the treatment of heart problems, anuria-dysuria, skin diseases, hiccup, cough, asthma,headache, epilepsy, anorexia, blood disorders, waist pain, rib pain, typhoid, indigestion,vomiting, old constipation, wound, swelling, joint pain, leprosy, weakness. It kills stomach worms and alleviates poison. It removes offensive smell of the mouth and breath. It increases sperm count and ends germs. It also prevents pregnancy.
According to Unani Medical Science: Basil enhances body strength and makes sperm dark. It ends swelling, headache and dry cough. Smelling its leaves provides relief in senselessness. Chewing its leaves removes offensive smell of the mouth. Its seeds are useful to preventamoebic dysentery and bloody loose motions.
According to Scientists: After the chemical searching of basil, it is found that basil seeds contain 17.8 % green and yellow stable oil which contains sitosteral, stiyaric, linoluck, pamitic, linolenic and olic Vasa amla. It also contains glycoside, tannin, sevanin and acolytes.
Its leaves and sprout contain 0.1-0.3 % green and yellow fly oil which is offensive like clove. It contains 71 % yujinal, 20% yujinal mithyal either and 3 % karvakol. Its leaves also contain ‘cerotin’ and vitamin-C in less quantity.
